Biography

Two days before St. Patrick's Day 2004 Matt Parrish and Nathan Tucker sat at a booth in Bailey's Pub on the South Side of Birmingham Alabama. They were a bit depressed because St. Pat's was only a few days away and they had no money for booze. Well like any good industious Irish lads they came up with a plan. It was simple, go around South Side and play Irish music for enough money to get tanked. Little did they know what that one idea five years, three line up changes and one name change would bring about. Jasper Coal was born out of their love of Irish, Punk, and Bluegrass music. As well as a healthy respect for the drink. Add to this volitile mix the precision of former Shillelagh Law bassist Jeremy Burns. And the Metal fueled chops of former Entropy guitarist Ian Hoppe and you get one of the most unique Irish bands in the Southeast. Described by some as "Pubcore", Jasper Coal mixes Traditional Irish music and instruments with Punk Rock energy.

In the Spring of 2007 Jasper Coal released their first cd intitled Immigrant Child, as a tribute to the bands original name The Immigants. While doing so Bassist and Bazooki Jeremy Burns joined the line up. At the same time the band started their own record lable, Punch Drunk Records, and continued playing around Birmingham. In the Summer of that year Ian Hoppe was added to the line up and the band finally felt complete. The bands sound has continued to evolve since then while staying true to their Irish Rebel roots. THeir upcoming album 1000 Feet Closer to Hell is an example of all of the varied styles that have influenced the members over the years.

Started in March of 2004 at a back table in a bar in Birmingham Alabama, Nathan Tucker and Matt Parrish had no idea what their great plan for making a little extra drinking money for St. Pat's would turn into. Now 3 years, one name change, and several former bandmates later Jasper Coal has become recognized as the rowdiest pub band in Birmingham. With the release of their first EP "Immigrant Child" in 2006, the upcoming album tentatively titled "1000 Feet Closer to Hell", various live recordings, and their widespread fanbase as far as Australia and the battlefields of the middle east.
